Here are some books that I
enjoy as well as some that are excellent sources of facts regarding western
figures and life back then:
FICTION
- The
Sons of Daniel Shaye series by Robert Randisi. The
most recent of these books is called Pearl River Junction and it has some
great action by a man who’s been writing great action for a long time.
- On
The Strength of Wings
by Marthayn Pelegrimas. This is a touching historical about a woman taking a
wagon train across the country. I know the author did her research and it
shows in an honest portrayal of the hardships of such a ride. The characters
are also very vivid and really feel like old friends as you read.
- Cavalry
Man
by Ed Gorman. A very cool mix of western, action and a touch of mystery.
NON-FICTION
- Doc
Holliday: A Family Portrait by
Karen Holliday Tanner. An excellent source of material on Doc from someone
who had access to letters, first-hand accounts, and all sorts of material
that had been passed down through Doc’s family. Makes you feel as if
you’d met Doc by the time you’re through.
- Doc
Holliday: The Life and Legend
by Gary Roberts. Honestly, I’ve just picked this one up and haven’t read
it through. It looks great and I’ll update this to let you know what I
thought when I’m done.
That’s it for now, but
there’s plenty more I can put up. I’ll add to this here and there, but these
are a few that jumped out at me right away. Enjoy and check in later for future
updates.
